Jasbir Chatterjee - You and I

Jasbir Chatterjee - You and I

Many years ago br When we were young br And deeply in love, br We once sat in a park… br The sun was setting, br Making way for the moon… br The birds were coming back to roost… br You were reading my poems… br Suddenly you drew me closer… br With your arms round me br And with your voice earnest, br You said, “Marry me, Jasbir, br And you will never have to write br Poems like these… br br Many years later br When we were no longer so young br But still deeply in love, br We once stood among the mountains br On a valley… br The sun was setting, br Making way for the moon… br The birds were coming back to roost… br We were smiling into a camera… br Suddenly other things became more important br And the moment was gone… br We were now part of a large crowd br And I began knitting my thoughts and memories br Into another poem.
