Amera Andersen - Room at the Inn

Amera Andersen - Room at the Inn

An eerie feeling on the road that night, br I was cold, tired and needed some sleep. br As the dark mist parted I could see the light, br so I cocked the wheel as I turned my Jeep. br br “O yes I have room”, replied the inn keep br and from a small box, he handed me keys. br I was slow to decide but I needed sleep. br “Do you want it or not? ” - I replied; “please”. br br I stepped in the room, felt weak in my knees, br as the door slammed shut the terror began. br The temperature dropped about ten degrees br I’m locked in a room with that awful man. br br Why didn’t that sign say “No Vacancy”, br I thought to myself, as he strangled me. br br br br br br Author notes br br Spenserian sonnet br br The Spenserian sonnet has a rhyme pattern of: br abab bcbc cdcd ee br Here, the 'abab' pattern sets up distinct four-line groups, each of which develops a specific idea; however, the overlapping a, b, c, and d rhymes form the first 12 lines into a single unit with a separated final couplet. The three quatrains then develop three distinct but closely related ideas, with a different idea (or commentary) in the couplet.
