John Pierpont - Hymns for Communion VI

John Pierpont - Hymns for Communion VI

'For my flesh is meat indeed.' br -John vi. 55. br br br Had Jesus left his scattered fold br The legacy of pride, br Golconda's gems and Ophir's gold, br When he, their Shepherd, died; br br br Few would have hoarded many a gem, br Of those who shared them first; br And O, how many, even of them, br Had, in that gift, been cursed! br br br Had such a legacy been cast br Upon the stream of time; br Would it have come through ages past,- br Ages of night and crime? br br br And had it reached us all, should we br In such a boon be blessed? br O no;-a part might misers be, br And prodigals the rest. br br br But all may now a treasure hoard, br That ne'er engenders strife; br For we may all, around this board, br Partake the bread of life.
