Samuel ha-Nagid - I Look up to the Sky .

I look up to the sky and the stars, br And down to the earth and the things that creep there. br And I consider in my heart how their creation br Was planned with wisdom in every detail. br See the heavens above like a tent, br Constructed with loops and with hooks, br And the moon with its stars, like a shepherdess br Sending her sheep into the reeds; br The moon itself among the clouds, br Like a ship sailing under its banners; br The clouds like a girl in her garden br Moving, and watering the myrtle-trees; br The dew-mist—a woman shaking br Drops from her hair to the ground. br The inhabitants turn, like animals, to rest, br (Their palaces are their stables); br And all fleeing from the fear of death, br Like a dove pursued by the falcon. br And these are compared at the end to a plate br Which is smashed into innumerable shards.
