Lonnie Hicks - Flying While Falling

'I never feel better, she said, 'than when falling in love; br weightless, I fly br br sometimes fluttering br like summer's swallows.' br br br 'I never feel better br than when I feel I have been enough' br he said, br 'for you to love.' br br 'I remember she said br 'the fear before the leap, afraid to fall br but I leapt for you br even though it is was against all my instincts br to swan-dive from high cliffs.' br br br 'I, ' he said br 'was beside you br we two in unison br hovering there, I remember br soaring, gliding br ignoring br no, defying br the very existence of ground; br I had my doubts too thinking: br br fools always fly high before the fall br I thought. br br but gliding winds sustained us in the early months br in that cloud-canvass bliss we call love- br gravity we defied br br not ever knowing br the existence of ground, br learning the art of treading lightly. br br br But a slow orbit had us circling br closer ever more br toward ground br and flyings' end br but then br br br were given br new wings- br those of an angel- br our child. br br We fly once again br this time with new wings br those which come with family.
