A fly caught in a spider's web, br Looked back o'er his life. br While he waited for the spider's jab, br That would pierce him like a knife. br br And thought I should've been a bird, br With a nest up in that tree. br And my singing would be heard, br And I would set hearts free. br br Whereupon a cat just sauntered by, br With a bird snug in his maw. br And the fly uttered a sigh, br At the somber sight he saw. br br Just then a gust of wind, br Bent a branch and tore the web. br And the fly skyward it did send, br Away from the spider's painful stab. br br And the fly said, 'thank-you lord, br That I was born a fly, br I take back every single word, br And lord, that ain't no lie.
