John F. McCullagh - ADAM

I was one of thirty embryos, br but I alone survive. br I am the Savior sibling br Without which my sister dies. br br We started out in vitro- br Men in white coats then decided br That I would be implanted, br all the others left to die. br br Mollie, my older sister, br carries a defective gene: br Excess hemoglobin br caused anemia extreme. br br From my umbilicus they took stem cells br And Mollie’s blood was cleaned. br They say I am a miracle. br To most, that’s how it seems. br br But what about the twenty nine br Who died that she might live? br Did they not have a human right br As good as mine to live? br br Why could they not be cherished br by our mother from the start? br Instead of summoned into being br as a little girl’s spare parts. br br I love my sister Mollie, br And she is awfully fond of me. br I’m not just her little brother- br I’m her insurance policy.br br John F.
