Edwina Reizer - AMERICA, MY AMERICA

Edwina Reizer - AMERICA, MY AMERICA

America, my America land of liberty, br what can you say has happened to thee? br Can you still say with pride br just how you feel? br Or is the pride over br can you hear the eagle's squeal? br br You fought hard for freedom br but you stole freedom too. br You stole it from the red man br many years ago. br You stole it from the black man br whose back was bent down low. br br Your sons and daughters of which I am one br are wondering now where's the sun? br It still shines, but not quite as bright. br The Lady in the harbor cries silently in the night. br br I think you were an experiment br designed to take a fall. br America, my America br you're not standing quite as tall. br br Another day is over. br We are deeper in debt. br Your main street is flooding br like Katrina, all wet. br br And so it is with sadness br I awaken every morn br and am filled with remorse br that the place where I was born br is not America, a land of liberty. br It's just another country with a false reality.
