Lonnie Hicks - Murdering Dreams

Lonnie Hicks - Murdering Dreams

When no one is looking br I count the steps br in front of my house br no reason apparent. br br I linger in front of photographs br that resemble you br and I allow br cruelly br the contrast br between you br and my present life. br br Disappointment br is harder to bare sometimes br in real life br catapulting us br to alternative realities br concocted by our mourning minds br which seek those media dreams br of the perfect life br of escape from the flesh and blood realities br surrounding us br introducing to us br dripping disappointments br in self, others and family. br br How guilt-dripping is this dynamic br where reality is seen to be br cruelly oppressive br compared to those media visions br concocted for us br by movies and tv. br br Murdering false dreams br is what, therefore, the children br must do br in order to grow up br and become part of humanity. br br Otherwise br a grieving shadow br that seeks that happily ever after br becomes a mind dripping br of false realities.
