Charles Edward Carryl - The Plaint Of The Camel

Charles Edward Carryl - The Plaint Of The Camel

Canary-Birds feed on sugar and seed, br Parrots have crackers to crunch: br And, as for the poodles, they tell me the noodles br Have chickens and cream for their lunch. br But there's never a question br About MY digestion— br Anything does for me! br br 'Cats, you're aware, can repose in a chair, br Chickens can roost upon rails; br Puppies are able to sleep in a stable, br And oysters can slumber in pails. br But no one supposes br A poor Camel dozes— br Any place does for me! br br 'Lambs are enclosed where it's never exposed, br Coops are constructed for hens: br Kittens are treated to houses well heated, br And pigs are protected by pens. br But a Camel comes handy br Wherever it's sandy— br Anywhere does for me! br br 'People would laugh if you rode a giraffe, br Or mounted the back of an ox; br It's nobody's habit to ride on a rabbit, br Or try to bestraddle a fox.
