Smoky Hoss - Cat & I

Smoky Hoss - Cat & I

There we sat br Just me and the cat, br Upon a bench overlooking the river Thames, br The cat turned to me br And said, I believe I see br Some approaching cranes. br To the cat with eyes br Always looking rather wise, br I smiled and replied thus, br Is the crane afloat br Aboard a wayward boat br Or arriving atop a bus? br The cat and I br Both did sigh, br For we had come to understand, br Never could we see things quite the same br Life as serious or life as game br For she is a cat and I a man. br So now on the bench she and I continue to sit br Without expressing thoughts one bit, br And thus it shall remain until one or the other does die, br When arrives that lonely day br So long pal will be the only words to say br A simple understanding between intimate friends... the cat and I.
