indira babbellapati - A Poem That Came Alive

Drenched in rain br You came knocking br At my closed door br I saw your face br Gleaming with raindrops br And your unique smile br br You pushed away the raindrops br Off your forehead br And looked at me br In a boyish glee. br br Where have you been, br I said feigning anger br br Can't you see, br I came back twice alive br Just for you, br You said. br br There had been rain br And what rain it was! br br It soaked my native soil br And my vegetation br Absorbed the rain drops br Together they opened br All the niches of my lungs br So far closed as I plodded br On the routine dusty tracks br The canals and streams br Overflowed to wash away the murk br Accumulated on the bizarre paths br And you know, br They even quenched br My unquenchable thirst br br Listen, br The soothing winds br Blowing from the far end br Touching the village cemetery br Caused me come alive br Just for once.
