C Richard Miles - Sunshot on the bus ride to Hebden Bridge

A bus-ride brought me Hebden Bridge again br This time in summer, though the spiteful clouds br Sheet-shrouding hilltops, half-heavy with rain br This awful August, threatened they dare drown br The valley, garnished green with grass and trees. br A stab of sunlight knifed gold through the grey, br Slug-slab stratocumulus, where the breeze, br Weak as bated butterfly breath, had laid br Pale pocket-handkerchief patches of blue. br A faraway farmstead flickered on for br Several swift seconds, screen-shot into view br Before it faded, lime as lichen or br Ivy, back into the emerald fieldscape br As cloud curtains closed their goggle-box gape.
