Paul Hartal - Slanted Eyes (Yeux Bridés)

Paul Hartal - Slanted Eyes (Yeux Bridés)

In a red coat she walked on black high heel shoes br In a crowded street between men with neckties br As we passed by she cast a casual glance at me br And I admired her radiant almond eyes. br br Once on a sunny afternoon in late August br I saw her again in a park under blue skies br The wind moved gently lacy cirrus clouds br And I adored her graceful Asian eyes. br br My ancestors did not build the Great Wall br Nor did they belong to ranks of Samurais br But when the Moon rises west of the Silk Road br I dream about the girl with comely oblique eyes. br br As the years slip by and we grow old together br We walk hand in hand on fields of butterflies br Why do you love me? She asks and I tell her: br For your beautiful soul and your slanted eyes.
