Dan McGonagle - A tall dark stranger

Dan McGonagle - A tall dark stranger

A tall dark stranger rode into town br Left his horse at the livery stable br Booked a room for the night at the drovers inn br Ate a meal at a dim corner table br br Paid for a bath in coin of gold br Asked the maid to wash down his back br Paid her in gold that glints in the dark br From a purse that he took from his pack br br He slept in a bed with clean cotton sheets br The best he had done for a while br Under his pillow his hand on his gun br For years now that had been his style br br It wouldnt take long for news to get round br Of the stranger who had come into town br When all the young bucks would try out their luck br He would shoot them still wearing his frown br br It always was fair in a manner of speaking br He let them make the first move br In the blink of an eye his bullets would fly br He had nothing much left he could prove br br The stranger had come with a hand and a gun br So fast he could never be beat br All that had tried very soon realised br He was Death as they lay at his feet br br As evening approached he went to the stable br Where he saddled and mounted his horse br As the dusk fell around he rode out of town br Never once with a pang of remorsebr br Dan McGonaglebr br
