Mary Mc Creath - Childhood memories- childhood Play

In buildings tall with concrete wall, br I came to be. br Twelve families a tenement did br share with me. br Backyard of concrete too did see my play. br Two rooms for shelter eight of us did stay. br br The stairs we leapt and slithered down for fun. br The railings climbed, br the smaller buildings too. br The lamp posts used for swinging with a rope. br The enemy were often tied there too. br br Cakes from mud with broken china paid. br A piece of chalk and peever beds were laid. br Balls bouncing ‘gainst the wall swayed too and fro, br Count one to ten...the others flee.. search high and low. br br The canal and lock was there br for our fun. br A pin and string then fishing br was begun. br The seasoning planks became br a source of play br and we could walk on water br any day. br br The war-torn buildings were there br tall and thin. br We played amid the ruins br stark and grim. br No doors or windows there to br bar our way. br The walls had gaping holes br and we climbed in.
