It would be unfortunate if the idea of multiple selves br obscured the fact the self is still br responsible for the terror it makes in the mind. br br It would be a mistake if the multiple meanings br of words like torture disguised the fact br we are torturers, with lessened concern about it. br br It would be tragic if the loss of multiple relationships br to the unconscious br obviated the possibility br of minding a more responsible life. br I say this as someone who minds br what insanity means, not what we are coming to think. br br Imagination means so much; br so much depends on what's under.
