Erica Jong - Sailing Home

In the redwood house sailing off br into the ocean, br I sleep with you- br our dreams mingling, br our breath coming & going br like gusts of wind br trifling with the breakers, br our arms touching br & our legs & our hair br reaching out like tendrils br to intertwine. br br The first time br I slept in your arms, br I knew I had come home. br Your body was a ship br & I rocked in it, br utterly safe in the breakers, br utterly sure of this love. br I fit into your arms br as a ship fits into water, br as a cactus roots in sand, br as the sun nestles into the blazing horizon. br br The house sails all night. br Our dreams are the flags br of little ships, br your penis the mast br of one of the breeziest sailboats, br & my breasts floating, br half in & half out br of the water, br are like messages in bottles. br br There is no point to this poem. br What the sea loses br always turns up again; br it is only a question of shores.
