Ernst Toller - Twilight

Ernst Toller - Twilight

In early evening the cell flares up. br Thin shadows slide down the gray walls. br He who cries out in mutiny exhausts into a dream. br The brown stillness sweeps over like a gentle wave. br br And often a frosted light fills the choked room. br Figures beckon you to the spiritless circle br where the dance of the heavy coats dissolves into silence, br where dawn breaks into a ringing of bells.
