Georg Trakl - Summer Dawn

In the green ether suddenly a star flickers br br And in the hospital they smell the morning. br br The thrush trills crazily hidden in the bush br br And cloister bells go dreamlike and far. br br A statue towers in the square, lonely and slender br br And in the courtyard red flowerbeds dawn. br br The air around wooden balconies shakes with sultriness br br And flies quietly reel around the stench. br br The silver curtain there before the window hides br br Entwined limbs, lips, tender breasts. br br A hard hammering echoes from the tower scaffold br br And the moon decays white in the firmament. br br A ghostly dream-chord hovers away br br And monks plunge from the church gates br br And stride lost in the infinite. br br In the sky a bright summit lifts.
