Smoky Hoss - Driving Through the Dark

Smoky Hoss - Driving Through the Dark

Travelling for miles, and miles, br Through the dark; br In the distance a flood light appears, upon a hill, br Pulling the old house and barn back together; br Light makes closer. br br A small-town street lamp br Goes out, br And the buildings on either side wander away, br In the darkness, br Only to be regathered when the sun arises; br Light makes closer. br br Hundreds of billions of miles out br A brilliant star flashes upon the emptiness of night, br While on a dark and still farm br A dog awakes, br Sensing the light, looks up, br Seeking, br See's headlights approaching on a two-lane blacktop, br And watches until we pass, br My car and I - br br All of us gathered together, br The immense and the small, br The mobile and the still, br Enjoined into the light; br Here, driving onward through the dark (of life) br Having come far enough br To see, br Only light truly br Makes closer. br br br (- Light is an understanding, br of things esoteric.
