Palestine Liberation Army soldiers are fading away from the world. Homeless soldiers wandering through distant lands, fighting for a homeland somewhere in this world was a familiar picture in the 1970s. Lost their birth place and ousted from native lands as part of political compromises in the Second World War, they were seen living as refugees in which ever countries were willing to accommodate them. Man, woman and child- they were all born to sacrifice their lives for a distant dream of homeland, to live in dejection and condemnation and to build a nation where none existed. India was one of the first countries in the world to recognize Palestine Liberation Organization as a State and extend to their Chairman Mr. Yaazar Arafat the courtesies of the Head of a Nation. It is also to be noted that India was one of the first countries to offer refuge to Jews who escaped with their life from Europe. Equally generous and kind was the welcome India gave to the homeless Dalai Lama from Tibet. The picture of refugees and revolutionaries in exile fighting for their homeland is not new to India. Activities of PLO and its chairman were inspirational and appealing to educated young men in those times. Brigades of Palestinian Liberation Army have been dismantled since locating their homeland near Gaza and Jerusalem following multi national consensus. But the saga of their struggle for homeland continues and guns, grenades, rockets and war planes still torment their promised land. The selfless life and mission of liberation soldiers, after spending years in hidden military training camps in mountain wild, now returning to cities to take part in the ongoing struggle, is the theme of this poem. The title Prabhaathamunarum Mumpe means Before Dawn Wakes. Now going away after training, they are saying farewell to mountains, jungles, valleys, villages and rivers, everything which welcomed them years ago and cared for them.

Written in 1979, this poem was first published included in a book of poetry titled Kaalam Jaalaka Vaathilil (Time Upon My Window Sill) by P.S.Remesh Chandran, released in Press Club, Trivandrum on 10 February 1999 by Mr. Gopinath Muthukaadu, the renowned magician, the first copy to Mr. M. Rajagopalan Nair, District Public Prosecutor and Government Pleader of Trivandrum, in the presence of Mr. Sukumar, writer and Narmma Kairali President. This book held three records to its credit- the first book in print in Malayalam to appear in author’s own handwriting, the last book in Malayalam to appear in the old, real Malayalam script, and the first poetry book ever to appear in print with an introduction written in poetry. This book is now out-of-print.
