Hot Boys Band - Salt Your Sugar

Hot Boys Band - Salt Your Sugar

Today, very little information is available about this band, active in France in the first half of the 20s. Even the bandleader's name is not exactly known! It was Italian-born Tony Rumolino, to whom is also referred to as "Ray Rumolino". It seems he was a saxophone player. Depending on the source, further personnel included Jean Noudin (trombone); however, elsewhere I also found the names of Clarence J. Gransie, Paul Gason and Billy Thorburn. Although I read this might have been the first all-French band to have recorded on disc, the above mentioned names suggest a totally different story. As said before, Rumolino was of Italian origin. Gransie was an American who recorded with several bands including with Gorman's Novelty Syncopators, The Happy Six, Yerkes' Bluebird Orchestra, Art Hickman's New York London Five, Jack Howard's Metropolitans and Joe Lanin's Jazz Band. Billy Thorburn was a British musician, well-know from the Savoy Orpheans as well as Organ, The Dance Band And Me. Finally, Gason apparently was a Belgian citizen. I have been unable to untangle the real history of the band. Anyhow, enjoy this great interpretation, recorded in France in 1923.
