But due to a dispute with her landlord, she now lives in shelters with her two grandchildren. Her case is far from rare. In metropolitan Denver, for example, families are the majority of the homeless population. People who have lost their job or their home or experienced a family breakup now fill the shelters. Experts say that homelessness can have a traumatic effect on children.
