Following the summer's fierce anti-government protests, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Recep Erdogan has opened a new front in the country's growing debate on religious interference, by declaring in a speech that male and female university students should not be living in joint accommodation. Erdogan said the government had already shut down mixed accommodation in 75 of state-run student dormitories and would continue to do so.
