Angelina Jolie has announced that she has had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventative measure against cancer. Writing in the New York Times the Hollywood star explained that she had recently undergone surgery after discovering she carries a gene that gave her a 50 risk of developing ovarian cancer. The move comes two years after the actress and director had a double mastectomy in a bid to prevent breast cancer, the disease that killed her mother. In the article, titled Angelina Jolie Pitt: Diary of a Surgery, the UN Ambassador described how a blood test revealed a number of elevated inflammatory markers that could be an early sign of cancer.
