Before the Summit of the Americas began, Obama assured Latin American leaders that the days of US meddling in the region are a thing of the past. Speaking at a meeting of civil society groups and presidents, he also said that he was pleased by Cuba's presence. He called for greater efforts to attack inequality and enhance opportunities and transparency in the region.
