In 2014, Saitama prefecture teachers suffered a rash of sexual harassment complaints. Now schools have issued an official warning to all high school teachers in the prefecture.

In the past 5 years there have been 22 cases of sexual harassment accusing teachers in the Saitama prefecture of Tokyo of unprofessional behavior.

Further investigations revealed that 60% of offensive or inappropriate remarks made by teachers occurred via the free chat app, Line.

In response schools issued an official warning to teachers. “Do not contact students with Line,” “Do not arrange to meet with students outside of school,” and “Do not allow students inside your car” just to name a few.

Teachers who fail to heed the warnings and are accused and found guilty of inappropriate conduct with a student will be fired and may face criminal charges and a maximum fee of USD $42K.

If teachers must contact students outside of the classroom they must use the school phone or receive permission from the headmaster or principal.
