Passengers of an American Airlines flight were thrown into panic after the cabin wall panels broke apart, fueling worries that the aircraft would disassemble in midair.

The Dallas-bound American Airlines flight 2293, which was carrying 184 passengers and six crew members, took off from San Francisco International Airport shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“All of a sudden there were loud popping sounds and ripping noise,” passenger James Wilson told NBC Bay Area.

Passengers became worried that the airplane would be torn apart as wall panels began to tear, revealing the aircraft’s insulation materials.

An hour into the flight, the pilot, who walked out from the cockpit and checked the ripped panels, decided to return to San Francisco.

No one was injured in the incident. American Airlines said that the cabin panels cracked because of a blown air duct, but that the aircraft did not experience any depressurization, contrary to a previous report by the Federal Aviation Administration.
