Ann Coulter Wants To Make It 'More Difficult To Vote'

Is voting a right? Some people interpret the Constitution as stating that it is, but others claim it is a privilege that can be revoked or refused based on certain disqualifying factors, such as being a convicted felon or not being a U.S. citizen. Both sides of the argument sound logical, and I can understand the confusion considering the Constitution does refer to voting as a “right.” However, only in specific contexts. br br For example, the 15th Amendment says that no person can be discriminated against because of race or color when it comes to voting, but there is no specific amendment anywhere in the Constitution that explicitly grants a general “right” to vote to any American citizen. br br One could argue that voting is one of the most important processes in which Americans can engage to influence our government. It is our fundamental responsibility to do everything we can to make sure that the system is not corrupted or abused. br br One way we could improve the legitimacy of our voting process, besides requiring every person to prove their eligibility with photo identification, would be to certify voters as being knowledgeable enough to understand for who and what they are voting. They would be required to pass a brief exam on basic political and governmental information. br br I really don’t see the down side of requiring a civics certification prior to American citizens casting their votes. Democrats, on the other hand, don’t like the idea at all. They tend to prefer their voters be ignorant and misinformed. br br Ann Coulter has a few thoughts on the matter, agreeing with testing to qualify voters as knowledgeable enough to be voting, and she’s been slammed for wanting to make it “more difficult to vote.
