Cuba: Voter Turnout Tops 88% in Local Elections

Voter turnout in Cuba's local elections held this past Sunday topped 88, according to election officials. In Cuba, unlike some other Latin American countries, voting is not mandatory. Voters elected 11,425 candidates to municipal assemblies while 1,164 races will go to a second round on April 26 since no candidate received more than 50 of the ballots cast.
