On March 24, 1980, a member of a death squad in El Salvador shot Archbishop Oscar Romero as he was giving mass. Just days later, the Army opened fire on the funeral procession, killing more people. Now, 35 years later, the Vatican has announced that it will beatify Don Oscar Arnulfo Romero. In today’s program Laura Carlsen interviews sociologist and religious expert Bernardo Barranco and human rights defender Bishop Raul Vera of Saltiillo on the legacy of Monseñor Romero, the relationship of the Church to the continent, and the ongoing struggle for justice.
