Demonstrations in the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and other countries called for the release of Puerto Rican political prisoner Oscar Lopez, currently held in a U.S. prison. Today's demonstration in New York is expected to attract 5,000 participants. Lopez, a leader of the Armed Forces of National Liberation, was sentenced in 1981 to 55 years in prison on a series of charges including seditious conspiracy and weapons violations.
