Jerry Medina Official Website Link - br br The training and education of Jerry Medina is as diverse as his music. He grew up in New York listening to her mother Lydia Ortega sound, while at the same time listening to gospel singers in churches. His education is equally diverse. br br In addition to studying music with both his mother and Luis Gonzalez Peña, Jerry has a degree in Agricultural Sciences and the University of Puerto Rico and completed a special business program at Northwestern University. br br With his partner and friend, Nestor Torres, Jerry joined the Latin music industry. After this musical experience, in 1980 Jerry joined the orchestra Ismael Miranda. Later he was part of Batacumbele, a group founded by Angel "Cheek" Maldonado, Eric Figueroa and Eddie Rivera, with the help of the talented Frank Ferrer. This group grew to include the talents of Giovanni Hidalgo and Pablito Rosario. And it was these musicians who helped Jerry to undertake a musical experiment resulting in a fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. br br Throughout his career, Medina has worked with numerous exponents of Latin music. He participated in the album Eddie Palmieri, "The Truth," nominated for Grammy awards. With composer and director Raymond Torres, Jerry worked with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in Symphony Salsa project proved to be very successful in his presentation at the Fine Arts Center of Puerto Rico. Added to this, Jerry has worked as a backup singer for stars such as Yomo Toro, Cheo Feliciano, Lucecita Benitez, Jose Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Larry Harlow, Herp Albert, Tony Vega, Manny Manuel, Luis Enrique and as lead singer for Descarga Boricua. br br Shortly before his debut solo album "Feelin 'Allright" for the RMM label, Jerry Medina participated in the tour of the Fania All Stars and the Jazz Festival North Sea, held in the Netherlands. Through these events Jerry visited Spain, Italy, France, Colombia and the African continent with figures like Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Horace Silver, Mel Lewis and Airto Moreira. br br Creating a bridge between the Caribbean and Latin jazz folklore, the talented musician produced the CD "Feeling Alright", which has had a warm reception from the critics.
