Guatemala: Supreme Court Sends Perez Investigation to Congress

The Guatemalan Supreme Court ruled that the investigation of President Otto Perez Molina on corruption charges is in the hands of the country's congress. Lawmakers will be forming a commission in the next few hours to decide whether to strip the embattled president of his immunity from prosecution. Massive demonstrations have been sparked by a major corruption scandal involving bribes to top level officials to avoid paying customs duties and protesters have been demanding Perez's resignation. The president's right-wing Patriot Party does not have a majority in congress.
