Police in the US city of Dallas, Texas, came under heavy gunfire early on Saturday from what they described as an armoured van. br br The vehicle also rammed a squad car before reversing and driving away chased by police. br br It eventually stopped in a fast food restaurant car park in the city of Hutchins around 16 kilometres south of Dallas where there was another exchange of gunfire.br br Police were able to make contact with at least one man inside the vehicle.br br “The suspect has told our negotiators that we took his child and we accused him of being a terrorist and that he’s going to blow us up”, said Dallas Police Chief David Brown.br br An explosive device discovered at police headquarters went off as a police robot was attempting to remove it. br br A number of other suspect packages were also found. br br Nearby residents were moved from their homes while the incident was dealt with.
