Safe Sparring Sifu vs Ty - No Contact

Sifu Freddie Lee Safe Sparring Kung Fu Demo br br Email: FreddiesModernKungFu@live.com br Blog: br Music by Steve Caissy br br This video is the first time I met this person, he is a friend of one my students. He has been training in Martial Arts for many years and teaches himself. He reminded me a lot of Davin James. By the way he was moving, I could already tell he knew what he was doing. We only met up once to spar and we never met again. We never really made much contact. It would be nice to make more realistic demonstrations with him but at the same time, because he teaches himself, there would be a conflict. It’s really difficult to make a realistic demo with someone who is not your student, it becomes a conflict, both schools are looking to grow and neither teacher wants to publicly display a sparring video of which he feels he did not perform well in. Even Donnie Yen had to make the decision to allow Jet Li to beat him in a fight in the movie “Hero.” br br This person is not my student and I am not his. He is skilled, I am skilled, and if we did make more contact who will it benefit? We are both putting our bodies at risk of great injury all for what purpose? If he was my student, it would be very different, there will always be that respect and we are both aiming to build the school together. But with another person who teaches his own ways, it becomes a conflict. There cannot be two Presidents of the United States at the same time, there cannot be two CEO’s. He runs his own business, I run mine, I don’t see how working together will benefit anyone, if anything it will just create a conflict. br br It becomes very difficult for Artists of great talent to come together. NWA had broken up, Destiny’s Child had broken up, The Beatles had broken up. Many times Artist’s will break up and find their own way, they will find their own audience. You see Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, etc. They all have their own audiences. It’s very difficult for Artists to collaborate because of conflicts in individual self expression, especially when it comes to combat, because it potentially can become physically violent. br br Neither Martial Artist wants to back down, and when a Martial Artist does not back down, it can result in some serious injuries. It’s not like two singers collaborating in a song, nobody’s going to get physically beaten. It’s not even like two Martial Art actors collaborating in a movie, they are not really fighting. But two Martial Artsts sparring with high intensity with a business to protect, well that can only lead to something destructive. If one Martial Artist is a teacher and the other is not, it could work, but the teacher always has more on the line, more to live up to, it is his livelihood, it is his profession, he needs to represent the best at all times, that’s just the way it is.
