President Ollanta Humala declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in six provinces after clashes erupted during protests against copper mining. A fourth person was shot by police in Apurimac in Southern Peru at the Las Bambas project, associated with the Chinese transnational MMG. Protests continue despite the state of emergency. Two MMG vehicles were set on fire and demonstrators are now blocking a major highway. They plan to hold funeral ceremonies for those killed.
