Mexico City Hosts International Book Fair

With over 700 publishers, the International Book Fair in Mexico City brings the love of reading to thousands of enthusiastic citizens in the course of a week. Even so, a government survey shows that the average Mexican citizen above 18 years old only reads four books a year. Some say that this is not due to a lack of interest, but to the high cost of books. The access to reading materials and culture as a whole may be even more restricted in the future, given that the federal government proposes to cut US$1.9 billion for funding culture in 2016. Clayton Conn reports for teleSUR.
