Half of Bolivian Women Suffer Domestic Abuse

It is estimated that 52 of Bolivian women suffer physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their husbands or partners, with 10 deaths reported each month. In 2013 a law was approved defining femicide as a crime punishable with a 30-year prison sentence. The government reports that femicides since then have dropped considerably but critics say not much has changed. Indeed, only 6 of cases reported to authorities go to trial. Dimitri O'Donnel reports from La Paz.
