HAWTHORNE, CALIFORNIA — Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and founder of space company, SpaceX, posted a video on Instagram where he shows a Falcon 9 reusable rocket exploding after coming back from space and attempting to land on a drone ship.

According to Musk, one of the legs failed to lock and caused the whole rocket to tip over.

Rough seas at the time of the mission may have also contributed to the unsuccessful landing, the Verge reported.

A successful landing of rockets on ships, however, has the advantage of helping to save fuel. Due to the fact that drone ships move, they can locate themselves more or less underneath the rocket before the landing, which saves fuel that otherwise would be used to help the rocket move horizontally to an appropriate landing spot.

This is the third time SpaceX has unsuccessfully attempted to land a Falcon 9 rocket on a ship. Rockets also exploded during the last attempts.

But for Musk, this is far from being another failure. According to Verge, the company has a few more ocean missions coming up and, as Musk posted on Twitter, he remains positive that rocket ship landings are getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.
