Vijayakanth Statement about EVKS Elangovan comment on CM and PM
In the last two days, many effigies of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President EVKS Elangovan have been burnt, the Congress headquarters in Chennai has been attacked and a complaint has been filed against the Congress leader with the state Director General of Police. (DGP) Elangovan has become a target for both the AIADMK and BJP in the state, after his remarks about Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and PM Narendra Modi. Elangovan allegedly made the statement during Modis visit to the state on August 7. He reportedly said that Modi had come to visit Jayalalithaa not for any political reasons, and also used the word Kalla Uravu or Illicit affair. Both the AIADMK and the BJP have condemned the statement and AIADMK workers took to the streets in many districts, protesting the Congress chiefs remarks. BJPs H Raja has also filed a complaint against Elangovan with the DGP seeking strict action against him. Speaking to reporters, Elangovan defended his statement saying it had been twisted by the rival parties for their own benefits. When I said illicit affair, I was referring to the relationship between the AIADMK and the BJP and not between the leaders of the parties. My statement has been twisted and is being read out of context, the Congress leader said. My statement is being convoluted because the AIADMK wants to divert the attention from the prohibition issue, he added. Sources confirmed to The News Minute that the Chief Ministers office has given the green signal for defamation cases to be filed on EVKS Elangovan and Tamil channel Puthiya Thalamurai which live telecast EVKS speech. (Tamil Nadu government follows the reasonless practice of filing defamation cases against media houses that report statements made by others on the government). MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, VCK leader Thirumavalavan and others have come out in support of Elangovan, claining his statement had been twisted. I saw visuals of Elangovans effigy being burnt, his pictures being hit with chappals. Is this Tamil Nadu or Hitlers country? If Elangovan had said something wrong, I would have surely condemned it, said Vaiko. The protests against EVKS Elangovan are an eyewash. He has never spoken ill of anyone. He has been in the forefront, exposing this governments corruption, thats why they are scared, said Khushbu, Congress leader.
