Jen Christensen 1st appearance Long Weekend Last OTooles show PT5

Jennifer Christensen reads a poetic medley & co-host Joe Harvard improvs on Telecaster along with Will on drums, Mike Black bass & the LOWLY crowd banging stuff during Poetry Corner at the final Long Weekend at OTooles in the Asbury Park Convention Ctr.. OTooles was about to close & the show would move to the Wonderbar and finally Synaxis.\rbr** The Long Weekend began at Cambridges Plough & Stars, where it ran for 28 months over 3 yrs, culminating in a 15-month run of Mondays. The newer incarnation ran for 2 years every Monday in Asbury Park, New Jersey & featured co-host Mallory Massara, Queen of Trivia & Poetry Corner [homage to Bullwinkle], a spoken word + improvisational music segment, & an open stage with Joe as conductor & guide. And bouncer when necessary. Mal & Joe brought a PA, bass and guitar amps & all instruments including the infamous suitcase drum set.\rbrRECIPE: This new LW explored Warhols concept of eliminating any barrier between audience & performer via unrehearsed tag-team jams in a musically non-sectarian format, open to all, no experience required. No cover was ever charged, there were no signup sheets -- Ask & Ye shall Receive was the policy on participation; We bring the stuff you bring the talent the ethos; and there were only 2 rules: You Must Play With Others, & If Youre Gonna Be Here, Be Nice.\rbrBlackballed after placing a joke about Live Nation into the opening video of the 2009 Asbury Music Award ceremonies, which Joe was hosting for the second [& last] year, Joe & Mal boycotted the 2010 event. They werent present when the Long Weekend won the Top Avant-Garde Award, which was very fittingly accepted by regular attendee Roto Don Haynie & other Long Weekenders. without whose talent it could not have been won.**\rbr[last otooles 5jen - Computer.
