James White nearly performs the impossible, coming mere inches from touching the top of the backboard, 13ft. He has an 8'9 standing reach so do the math, 13ft-8'9=4'3=51inches. He missed by mere inches. The only other person to officially come close and have proof other than legend and conjecture is Doug Smith, formerly of Iowa, who touched 12'9 on a vertec device.
