11 candidates who would make sense as the Lakers' next head coach

After the two worst seasons in franchise history, the decision for the Lakers to not keep Scott as coach is hard to argue. Here’s a look at the most commonly rumored candidates. Luke Walton, Warriors assistant coach: Former Lakers player, so he's part of the "family" they value. As the assistant of the Warriors, he brings a coaching title. Ettore Messina, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach: Brings a wealth of international experience and has what is considered a brilliant basketball mind. Jeff Van Gundy: A smart coach who can develop players and help them win. David Blatt: His offensive system, if executed, could work magic with the Lakers' young guards. Nancy Lieberman: Would make headlines as the NBA's first female head coach. She’s a Hall of Famer, has assistant coaching experience with the Kings and ran the Mavericks' D-League team. Mark Jackson: He's passionate and connects with players,  wins games, is a former player and will introduce discipline. Vinny Del Negro: Has a good track record for being a guy to transition the team and build a foundation. Kevin Ollie: A long shot given his college stint at UConn, but he has been highly sought after in recent years. Monty Williams: Helped get the Pelicans ready for prime time and clinch a playoff spot. He can coach veterans and young players. Jay Wright: The Villanova coach just won a national title, so he earns a spot on this list. Nate McMillan: Always had well-balanced teams and brought persistence while forming valuable offenses.
