FA CUP FINAL: UNITED Vs LIVERPOOL, 1996 br br Manchester United 1 Liverpool 0 br Saturday 11 May 1996; Wembley Stadium br Scorer: Cantona 86 br br A third final in a row for United and a chance to capture an extraordinary second Double in three years. The Reds - now featuring the ‘kids’ Alan Hansen famously said nothing could be won with - had beaten Sunderland, Reading, Manchester City, Southampton and Chelsea on the way to the final where arch-rivals Liverpool were waiting. The Merseysiders raised eyebrows by turning up at Wembley in cream suits and white shoes, quite the look-at-us gesture. br br The match wasn’t a classic as the two previously free-scoring sides struggled to create their usual opportunities, and the final looked to be heading towards extra time. That was until Eric Cantona – man of the season – somehow produced a wonderful late volley that whistled in through a ruck of players to seal the double Double.
