This video of a solar flare from NASA’s Goddard center is an amazing example of what our sun is capable of producing.

Here we see the sun produce a flare from June 7, 2011. You can observe a huge solar eruption that blankets a large portion of the sun’s surface.

On June 7, 2011 the Sun unleashed an M-2 (medium-sized) solar flare with a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME). The large cloud of particles mushroomed up and fell back down looking as if it covered an area almost half the solar surface. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtlWLPf8yPE
