Homeless guy lives large in Los Angeles freeway underpass paradise

LOS ANGELES — A homeless fella turned his lemons into more than just lemonade, as he transformed a dinky freeway underpass into opulent digs he’s proud to call home. br br Ceola Waddell, 59, didn’t want to spend his nights in a cardboard box, when he could live nicely like everybody else, the Los Angeles Times reported. br br Waddell’s underpass crib has all the furnishings: a four-poster bed and couch decked out in animal print, porcelain toilet, a makeshift Jacuzzi, and more. It’s even big enough to fit extras, including a tent that’s rented out to other homeless people for $25 a week. br br A video tour of the eye-popping accommodation eventually made it to Facebook, where it’s been viewed more than 1.4 million times. br br As a result, Waddell now has fans who trek to his underpass compound, which he calls Paradise Lane, to get a good look and take photos with him. br br But not everyone is happy about the lavish crib. City sanitation crews have dismantled the makeshift abode twice. Each time, Waddell scavenged neighborhoods for useful junk and rebuilt his setup. br br Homelessness remains a growing issue in LA, with numerous encampments around the city. Officials struggle to get people off the streets and into temporary housing, while figuring out a permanent solution for the problem.
