BANGKOK — An American tourist says she was kidnapped and robbed in Thailand but fought off her attackers when one of them tried to rape her.

Michigan woman Alexandra Fairfield arrived back in the U.S. last week on a flight supposedly paid for by a GoFundMe campaign to bring her home.

And although her story sounds like the latest installment of the “Taken” movie franchise, friends and family of the 25-year-old insist it is all too real.

Alexandra and her college roommate Joe were reportedly in an unnamed Bangkok bar on the first night of their Thai vacation, Alexandra’s mother Cindy Fairfield told ABC-affiliate WZZM.

While Joe went to the bathroom, Alexandra said she began to feel woozy, possibly because she’d been drugged. One member of the alleged kidnapping gang took Alexandra out of the bar, apparently without anybody seeing.

Cindy Fairfield said four or five others then picked her daughter up and threw her into a black car with tinted windows.

Alexandra woke to find herself bound by the hands, and a man in a Thai law enforcement uniform trying to rape her, but somehow she was able to get free and fight her attacker off.

Alexandra’s sister Samantha Jo Moore wrote on Facebook that she then jumped from a second floor balcony. Alexandra asked several people nearby to help her, but they refused, so she hid in some bushes for seven hours.

Police officers looked for her with flashlights, but fearing they were corrupt cops, she stayed hidden. When she came out, Alexandra asked some security guards for help, but they laughed and asked her for money.

Alexandra flagged down a taxi and made it back to her hotel. She went to the U.S. Embassy, but they couldn’t do much because she refused to file a police report.

Well-wishers then raised nearly $9,000 to help Alexandra and Joe get home after her boyfriend Nathan Jennings launched a GoFundMe appeal
