Ethnomusicology about the forests of Indonesia; Produced by Gekko Studio, Indonesia a class="link" rel="nofollow" href=" including footage from a class="link" rel="nofollow" href=", Handcrafted Films and Telapak. br br The poem is br Here at one time br orangutans played joyfully br eating fruits and leaves of the trees br swinging between the branches br generation upon generation for thousands of years br br Here at one time br the Meranti, Ulin, and Kamper trees br stood sacredly in great forests br wild orchids bloomed and faded br in-synch with the rhythms of the universe br br Here at one time br the Dayak with their blowpipes br hunted deer for their dinner br oo… the plentiful fruit and fish br abundant healing leaves br br Here at one time br the sun shone brightly br pouring its light on the dense rain forest br chlorophyll turned CO2 to O2 br creating fresh, clean air br br Nowadays br no rain forest remain br gone are the Dayak and their culture br gone are the orangutans, only a sad story br with its historical garbage is left behind br br Nowadays br millions of hectares of dry barren land br the dried roots of the trees remain br and huge holes of acid run-off water br left behind after the coal was sucked dry br br Nowadays br the red sun shines br watching officials, businessmen, br and foreign investors greedily cut down the trees br planted and nurtured over thousands of years br br Oh, my people … my people br nowadays … br angry Mother Earth sends floods br thousands of innocents lose belongings and lives br while the sinners play golf with their mistresses br br Aach … my forest laments br its eyes are swollen br its mouth gasps for breath br br Oh …. br you will see when the islands are drowning br the deserts expanding br disasters grow more violent … disasters grow more violent.
